Joseph M. Koehl

Biography:

Currently I live in Newport, KY, and my art is funded my my job and done in my spare time.

I graduated from Northern Kentucky University in spring of 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Photography.

My senior exhibition was comprised of over 200 Polaroid photos laid out on a shelf attached to the wall at waist level. Above the shelf were three ledges where visitors could stand and arrange any of the photos in whatever order or fashion they chose.

Immediately after graduation, and for approximately two years following, I took a break from creating photographs, due in large part to the end of Polaroid instant film production. In recent months, however, my interest and motivation have been rekindled with the acquisition of a Fujifilm Instax camera.

I am currently making work on my own, and am actively seeking opportunities for critique, exhibition, and/or funding of my work.

Exhibitions and Awards:

My work has been included in two separate group exhibitions at the Artisan's Enterprise Center in Covington, KY, as well as in a three person exhibition of Polaroid photographs at FERALMADE gallery, formerly of Cincinnati, OH. I had work in each of the 2005 through 2008 Juried Student Exhibitions at NKU.

Awards and scholarships I’ve received include the following: 2006-07 Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship; the 2006 Magrot Foundation Scholarship; the 2007 Schiff Family Scholarship, and in 2008 my work won 2nd Place in the LexArt’s University Open exhibition in Lexington, KY.
